Helping people become more curious about themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape their lives.

Making Sense of Ourselves and the World Around Us

Life is rarely as straightforward as we hope it will be.  Our relationships, experiences, beliefs, and environments all shape the way we think, feel, and move through the world. Over time, these experiences become part of the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we are capable of, and what we can expect from others.

Many of us eventually find ourselves asking questions like;

  • Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?

  • Why do certain relationships feel so difficult?

  • Why is it so hard to ask for what I need?

  • How can I create a life that feels more aligned with who I am?

I believe meaningful change often begins with curiosity. Curiosity about the experiences that have shaped us. Curiosity about the beliefs we hold, the patterns we repeat, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. And perhaps most importantly, curiosity about the person we are still becoming.

Our experiences shape us, but they do not have to define us. Through greater awareness of our relationships, beliefs, and patterns, we can better understand ourselves, strengthen our sense of agency, and make more intentional choices about how we move through the world.

I don't believe we change by judging ourselves more harshly. I believe meaningful change begins with becoming curious about ourselves, with honesty, compassion, and courage.

We don't always choose the experiences that shape us. We can choose to become more curious about them. And in that curiosity, we often discover new possibilities for understanding ourselves, strengthening our relationships, and moving forward with greater intention.

My work brings together research, education, and clinical practice to explore the relationship between attachment, identity, agency, human development, and resilience. Rather than offering simple answers, I hope to create opportunities for thoughtful exploration, helping people better understand themselves, their relationships, and the experiences that have shaped their lives.

Because when we begin to make sense of ourselves, we become more capable of creating meaningful change.

Current Work

Research

Investigating the relationship between attachment, locus of control, perfectionism, anxiety, and human development through ongoing research and scholarly collaboration.

Education

Developing workshops, courses, and educational content designed to make psychological concepts practical, accessible, and meaningful.

Public Scholarship

Sharing research-informed insights on relationships, identity, agency, resilience, and personal growth through presentations, articles, and public education.

Echoes of Why

Coming Soon! A podcast exploring the questions that shape human experience, from attachment and identity to meaning, resilience, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are.

The Four Pillars of Human Development

The exploration of human development through four interconnected pillars that shape the way we understand ourselves, our relationships, and the choices we make throughout our lives.

Attachment

Exploring how our earliest relationships continue to shape the ways we connect with ourselves and others. By becoming more curious about these relational patterns, we can better understand our needs, strengthen our relationships, and create deeper, more authentic connections.

Identity

Exploring the beliefs, experiences, and narratives that shape our sense of self and our place in the world. Through greater self-awareness, we can cultivate self-worth, embrace authenticity, and develop a clearer understanding of who we are becoming.

Meaning

Exploring how we make sense of our experiences and the ways they influence our understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us. By becoming more curious about the meaning we create, we navigate life's challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and purpose.

Agency

Exploring how the stories we tell ourselves influence the choices we make and the lives we create. Through greater awareness, we can strengthen our sense of agency and make intentional choices that are aligned with our values, relationships, and aspirations.

Why Curiosity Matters

We all make sense of the world through the stories we tell ourselves, stories shaped by relationships, experiences, beliefs, and environments.

Sometimes those stories help us grow.

Sometimes they quietly limit what we believe is possible.

I believe meaningful change begins not with having all of the answers, but with becoming more curious. Curious about how we came to see the world the way we do. Curious about the patterns we repeat. Curious about the beliefs we hold. And curious about who we are still becoming.

Through research, education, and thoughtful exploration, my hope is to help people better understand themselves, strengthen their sense of agency, and make intentional choices that are aligned with the lives they hope to create.

Looking Ahead:

The Jenna Amara Institute is an evolving research and educational initiative dedicated to exploring one enduring question:

How do we become who we are, and how can greater understanding help us become who we hope to be?

Rather than offering simple answers, the institute seeks to cultivate curiosity, creating opportunities for people to better understand themselves, their relationships, and the experiences that shape their lives.

The Jenna Amara Institute

Through research, writing, education, and public scholarship, the institute strives to translate psychological research into practical insights that empower individuals, families, educators, and professionals to navigate life with greater understanding, intention, and hope.

As the institute continues to grow, its vision is to foster a community of curious minds committed to exploring the complexities of human development and creating opportunities for meaningful growth, through research, books, podcasts, courses, workshops, and collaborative learning.

Our work is grounded in four interconnected pillars of human development:

Attachment

How we learn to connect.

Identity

How we come to understand ourselves.

Meaning

How we make sense of our experiences.

Agency

How we choose to move forward.
